Description
BBQ Chicken Mac and Cheese combines tender shredded chicken with smoky barbecue sauce and creamy, cheesy pasta for the ultimate comfort dish everyone craves.
Ingredients
2 cups elbow macaroni
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon flour
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups cooked, shredded chicken
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella (optional topping)
Instructions
1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
3. Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thickened, about 3–4 minutes.
4. Stir in cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until cheese melts.
5. Add cooked macaroni to the sauce and stir to combine.
6. Mix shredded chicken with barbecue sauce in a separate bowl.
7. Fold the BBQ chicken into the mac and cheese.
8. Transfer to a baking dish (optional) and top with mozzarella and green onions.
9. Broil for 2–3 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden. Serve hot.
Notes
Use rotisserie chicken for a shortcut.
Try smoked gouda or pepper jack for a twist.
Add jalapeños for spice or bacon for extra richness.
